Blogpost #13

ALEX is a very interesting website. ALEX is a website that should be used by every teacher in Alabama. It is set up as a one stop teaching tool for all teachers.

I have never heard of it but I am glad I spent the time to check it out. I probably didn't do it justice in going to see it because I know there is so much information on the website that I did not see. There was a lot of information on the website for teachers to use but the sad thing is I bet most teachers in Alabama do not know about this website. I know if this website was used by all teachers they would greatly appreciate it. I know one day I hope to use this website. It is truly a priceless piece of material.

Progress report on final project

Our final project is coming along slowly but surely. We are playing with the idea of doing a presentation on South Alabama Football. We would also include a Timetoast project along with youtube videos.

Results and Summary for project #6

Being that we are at University form the South I knew everyone would know we have a football program here at South. The other part that did not shock me was that just a little over half the students in the survey have attended a game here at South. You can tell that is true by the amount of students that attend the football games. One thing that was encouraging about the survey was that 83% of the people surveyed thought a stadium on campus would help with attendance.

C4k Summery two

Now this were some easy assignments. They were both fun and interesting. Just wanting to be a teacher means you have a soft spot in your heart for kids. The majority of my assignment in this section was mostly younger kids. . As a whole my comments focused on how they told me they were doing and that they just need to keep working hard.

Ms. Cassidy is a very intelligent women. I feel like she gets the best best out of her students without pushing them too hard. I do like to see that her students are involved and interested in the technology she offers. I know the she is way a head of the game in regards to what her students can do. It's really going to help her students later on down the road. I hope Ms. Cassidy keeps up her ways of teaching her kids the uses and advantages of technology.

When I seen what Ms. Cassidy is doing with her students I really didn't see to much similarity in what I'm going to do with my kids. I plann on being a science teacher so all technology with using the Facebook and Twitter is basically out the window. I'm not saying that these things aren't useful in the classroom I just don't think they will be used in my teaching philosophy.

Blog Assignment #10

After reading Morgan's blog, I am happy to know other students go through the same difficulties that I do. She couldn't have said it in a better way. When I am sitting in my two hour classes two and three times a day, I find it very difficult to concentrate and participate. I also find it difficult in the early morning classes. Classes always seem to be more enjoyable when the professors include the students in the lecture topics and allow us to communicate with each other. Class is usually always more fun when the professor asks the students questions throughout the lecture, this always seems to get my attention to the material instead starring off into space. I know i can bet you if the classes were not as long, it would help us as students to retain all of the information given by the professor. I feel like the professors try to squeeze all of the material into these two hour sessions.

I feel like if students were participating more in the lectures then maybe they wouldn't wonder off and get bord with the material. Shortened class could even be a start to maybe trying to get student to pay more attention in class.

My sentence:

I am trying to better the younger generations with my inspiration of me getting a degree and making something good of myself.

Blog Post #8 cont.

The Chipper Series and EDM 310 For Dummies

Both videos are really showing you how to get through EDM310 and useing good time management techniques . My idea of creating a video would just to make a short video on all the tools and equipment we use in our class for future students to look at for advice.

Critiques of Smartboards

After reading the two articles I definitely can agree with some points of their arguments. I really liked the quote by Sylvia Martinez “You can’t buy change. In both of there articles they both said the Smartboard keeps the kids interested during class. That right there is enough to make me want to use a Smartboard because I would much rather have kids a little interested in my class than a sleep in the back of the classroom. Here is a blog that explains the other side of these articles arguments

Blog Post #9

I really enjoyed Mr.McClung's post because it was very informing. He hit all the main points that teacher today should be aware of. Besides all the certifications that teachers have today I think that they should at least take a class that informs them about the things in Mr.McClungs Post. Because beside teaching content these are the things what really separate the good teachers from the alright teachers.

Project #10 - MY PLN

Halfway into the semester and my PLN is turning out to be better than I thought. PLN is new to me so it is taken a minute for me catch on to it. But I know by the end of the semester it should be pretty good. One part of my PLN that I think works to my advantage is my blogs. I have been almost up to date on every blog assignment so it should be pretty good in the end.

1.The video on how we dream was interesting and brought up some really good points. His main focus was how we as a Nation did not just read book or write like they did 60 years ago. He touched on how everything has went electronically. I have noticed that too. For example my friend who is currently in law school recently bought all E books. It shocked me when he told me but I know we are in present times.
My overall feeling about Miller's video is kind of nuetral. I know E books, word processors, and video lectures are the wave of the future but it will be hard for those to bet a real book, pen and paper, and good one on one lecture. I know those are all ancient and barbaric things but they work and that is how I personally learn.

NETWORKED STUDENT

The networked student is a new idea and term for me. I always kind of felt I used every resource I could but I guess I was not using enough to be considered a networked student. Once again I am not sure I i totally agree with this. I feel a teacher should have a hand in every part of their students development. I do not agree with the hands off approach. I know personally some the best teacher I have ever had in both college and high school were hands on teacher and were their for me whenever I need them.

Relying on interacting through a web cam will cause students to not interact ONE ON ONE. When that happens you lose out on your communication and interacting skills. People skills have recently fell to the waist side in the past few years and I think it is just said.

PLN and PLE

PLN and PLE are both term that i never heard before. You must have a PLE to have a PLN. The PLN is a the group of people you use in your PLE. PLN really goes with Networked Student. Through my research and discoveries an PLE is just being organized and using more technology than they did in the past. So looking at it from the big picture PLN and PLE both go bother and are the wave of the future.

THE MACHINE IS CHANGING US

I do indeed think machine is changing us, but we should be changing too. If we are not evolving we will basically get passed up and left behind. If machines are changing then we should be changing right along with them.

C4K Summary

C4K assignment 1 and 2 where very interesting to me. I really didn't know how to feel about a elementary school student haveing a blog, But it was kinda interesting to see how she responded to my post.

In assignment 2 I was assigned to the same student. In her second blog he kept repeating how important respect was to her and how she believed in it. Respect is a pet peeve of mine too so we saw eye to eye on that as well.

The Benefits of Podcasting in the classroom, 100 ways to used your iPod to Learn and Study Better, Eagles' Nest Radio Episode #3

I have anyways heard about podcast since I have had an iPod for years but in those years I have never used or downloaded a podcast. Thanks to "100 Ways to Use Your iPod to Learn and Study Better," I figured out where podcast come from and when they started. This article was probably more informative then the rest. My favorite out of the three links that I looked at was the 3rd graders. Eagles' Nest Radio was really interesting to me. The third graders spoke very well. The only problem I saw with their podcast was that the music was heard over what they were saying. My last link I seen "The Benefits of Podcasting in the Classroom" by Joe Dale. The most interesting part to me was how a sick student could get the day lecture at their house and still be product for that day at school even though they were sick.

Don't Teach Your Kids This Stuff! Please

Dr. McLeod makes some good point in what he was trying to say in his blog. The thing that made me want to read on was the tone in which It seem so sarcastic that it was almost funny. He also talked about the way technology impact student today and how he is also letting his students use new technology.

Dr. Scott McLeod is an Associate Professor at Iowa State University. He is also the director of the UCEA Center for the Advanced Study of Technology Leadership in Education. He is also co-creator.

The iSchool Initiative

I feel like the iSchool is taking away the old fashion paper and pencil method. There is a lot of kids who can learn by computers but there are also some who can't. I'm not saying that it's a bad invention but i just believe sence the style of the way kids are learning today has been going so good why change it now.

Lost Generation

Money is not the most important thing in the world but it makes a whole lot difference when you have some. Some people say that money can't by you a nice happy life, but being broke with no can't buy it either. I do agree with the video when it says that happiness is found within. That's just like you trying to be happy with your spouse and you are not satisfied with yourself. You can't be happy with anyone until you are happy with yourself.

Eric Whitacre’s Virtual Choir

I never seen anything like this. I was so amazed at how far technology as come. I was really amazed at how the blended in so good with each other and they never even met or rehearsed a single day. But if you didn't know you would think these people have rehearsed several days and weeks how perfect they seem to be.

Gary Hayes Social Media Count

I thought that the counter was very interesting. I just can't believe the statistics of how thing are being counted that fast. There is no way the counter can keep up with everything that is going on in that sense. I would have to see how it is grabbing the information to know that it is true. Till then I can't because you can't believe everything you see on the internet or on T.V. It is some nice technology though.

Is It Okay To Be A Technologically Illiterate Teacher?

I really agreed with Karl Fisch on most of his points that he made in the video but there were a couple points that I really feel different about. The reason why I feel this way is becaus most of my teacher that i had in High School were from the Ole School. They didn't use all the new technologies, most of them acually didn't even use the computer to put their grades into. They use a gradebook and would get mad when asked to use the computer. Most of my teachers used the overhead projector than using the Smart Board. Some of them even used the chalk boards. I just feel like they shouldn't have to change the same teaching style that they have been using for year.

It’s Not about the Technology

I must say that I agree with Hines 100% on her issue about technology. I like the way she said that technology is good in so many ways. But she also says that even though we have all of this fancy technology if we have no one who knows how to use it then what's the point of having it. I've been in many classes where the teacher on the first day of class spends the first 30 minutes trying to figure out how to use a Smart Board rather than use the old fashion overhead projector.

What I'm trying to say is that technology is steady evolving everyday. Teachers have to keep obtaining information so they can stay up with them.

A Vision of Students Today

In the video entitled "A Vision of Students Today," I feel like the person who made the video used education to make it seem like college students are basically getting whipped out of money and are just doing a lot of useless task. Me being a college student I acually understand a lot of what the video was saying. My books almost cost more than my scholarship seems like. Most of the time the teacher doesn't even use the book half of the time. There may be a time where I'm in class and I may hear the teacher say something that doesn't pertain to my life or my major. It's just crazy because I just do not see the point in some of the thing they are trying to teach us!

C4T Summary

My assigned teacher sounded like she really was driven to be the best teacher that she could be. The thing that I like the most about her style is that she was trying to get to know her students first. I really like what her principle told her about her first day. He said that if she was talking about content on the first day then something is wrong. A teacher owes it to their students to at least get to know them first. The students need to know that their teacher is not just here for a check. The relationships that each student feel that they have with their teacher will allow them to feel respected and they will give it back.

Vicki Davis: Harness Your Student's Digital Smarts

Vicki's class was very interesting to me! I really liked the way the class was set up except it looked like it had a lot of expensive things in there. The thing that i really liked about the class is that it wasn't a class where the teacher acually didn't baby the students every step of the way. She also tried to help them with their vocabulary by making them look up words that they didn't know the meaning to. I really enjoyed Vicki!

Sir Ken Robinson: The Importants of Creativity

In the lecture Sir Ken Robinson made it seem like Creativity was more important than education. I believe that creativity is important but not to that degree. You can't put creativity above education because education is one thing you can't take away from somebody. Creativity is not going to get you by in the world these days. More education equals more money and more money equals more power.

I believe that there is a time and place for creativity. I just don't believe like the school is one of them. But then again most of the worlds richest people left school.

Mr.Winkle Wakes

The video basically talks about how the technology of many years ago has evolved today. I really didnt know why they had the little cartoon man up there Because he didn't really go with the video at all. But I guess he did add a little animation to the video. The thing that i didn't like about the video is that it bashed the education system a little bit. It was basically saying that computer can teach children and adults better than a teacher can. One thing that a computer can't do is have a relationship with a student like a teacher can. A computer surely can't give a student who has a 89.4 a 90 average. Basically what I'm trying to say is that computers are good in most aspects of life, but there are just some places where computers can't replace.

Did you know!

I thought that the movie said a lot about how the United States compares to the other countries! According to most of the video and the statistics we rather stay on the internet all day chatting on Myspace or Facebook than to stick our heads in a textbook. One of the slides said that one country had more scholars than the United States has people!

The video is basically telling us that we have way too many distraction in the U.S that are hendering us from more education. That's probably why we are in so much debt now. We have to get more educated in what's going on in the world.

Blog #1 About Logan

Hello! my name is Logan Bennett and i play football at the University of South Albama. I like football but i do not love it! Let's just put it this way. If i had another way to pay for school i would be doing that! I think i might need to look into it Maybe. Everyone knows that being in the hot sun all day and getting your brains beat out it the best thing ever. But what can i say i do have some good days every once and a while. Days where i get all of my assignments correct and make all of my tackles. So i guess what I'm trying to say is that its not all that bad after all.

I have a younger brother and an older sister they are counting on me to make something out of myself even when i don't count on myself! i think that's why it's hard to let obstacles in life stop my success. I'm kind of glad they are counting on me, because no matter how hard it gets one thing i know is that i cannot fail them.
