The Benefits of Podcasting in the classroom, 100 ways to used your iPod to Learn and Study Better, Eagles' Nest Radio Episode #3

I have anyways heard about podcast since I have had an iPod for years but in those years I have never used or downloaded a podcast. Thanks to "100 Ways to Use Your iPod to Learn and Study Better," I figured out where podcast come from and when they started. This article was probably more informative then the rest. My favorite out of the three links that I looked at was the 3rd graders. Eagles' Nest Radio was really interesting to me. The third graders spoke very well. The only problem I saw with their podcast was that the music was heard over what they were saying. My last link I seen "The Benefits of Podcasting in the Classroom" by Joe Dale. The most interesting part to me was how a sick student could get the day lecture at their house and still be product for that day at school even though they were sick.

Don't Teach Your Kids This Stuff! Please

Dr. McLeod makes some good point in what he was trying to say in his blog. The thing that made me want to read on was the tone in which It seem so sarcastic that it was almost funny. He also talked about the way technology impact student today and how he is also letting his students use new technology.

Dr. Scott McLeod is an Associate Professor at Iowa State University. He is also the director of the UCEA Center for the Advanced Study of Technology Leadership in Education. He is also co-creator.

The iSchool Initiative

I feel like the iSchool is taking away the old fashion paper and pencil method. There is a lot of kids who can learn by computers but there are also some who can't. I'm not saying that it's a bad invention but i just believe sence the style of the way kids are learning today has been going so good why change it now.

Lost Generation

Money is not the most important thing in the world but it makes a whole lot difference when you have some. Some people say that money can't by you a nice happy life, but being broke with no can't buy it either. I do agree with the video when it says that happiness is found within. That's just like you trying to be happy with your spouse and you are not satisfied with yourself. You can't be happy with anyone until you are happy with yourself.

Eric Whitacre’s Virtual Choir

I never seen anything like this. I was so amazed at how far technology as come. I was really amazed at how the blended in so good with each other and they never even met or rehearsed a single day. But if you didn't know you would think these people have rehearsed several days and weeks how perfect they seem to be.

Gary Hayes Social Media Count

I thought that the counter was very interesting. I just can't believe the statistics of how thing are being counted that fast. There is no way the counter can keep up with everything that is going on in that sense. I would have to see how it is grabbing the information to know that it is true. Till then I can't because you can't believe everything you see on the internet or on T.V. It is some nice technology though.

Is It Okay To Be A Technologically Illiterate Teacher?

I really agreed with Karl Fisch on most of his points that he made in the video but there were a couple points that I really feel different about. The reason why I feel this way is becaus most of my teacher that i had in High School were from the Ole School. They didn't use all the new technologies, most of them acually didn't even use the computer to put their grades into. They use a gradebook and would get mad when asked to use the computer. Most of my teachers used the overhead projector than using the Smart Board. Some of them even used the chalk boards. I just feel like they shouldn't have to change the same teaching style that they have been using for year.

It’s Not about the Technology

I must say that I agree with Hines 100% on her issue about technology. I like the way she said that technology is good in so many ways. But she also says that even though we have all of this fancy technology if we have no one who knows how to use it then what's the point of having it. I've been in many classes where the teacher on the first day of class spends the first 30 minutes trying to figure out how to use a Smart Board rather than use the old fashion overhead projector.

What I'm trying to say is that technology is steady evolving everyday. Teachers have to keep obtaining information so they can stay up with them.

A Vision of Students Today

In the video entitled "A Vision of Students Today," I feel like the person who made the video used education to make it seem like college students are basically getting whipped out of money and are just doing a lot of useless task. Me being a college student I acually understand a lot of what the video was saying. My books almost cost more than my scholarship seems like. Most of the time the teacher doesn't even use the book half of the time. There may be a time where I'm in class and I may hear the teacher say something that doesn't pertain to my life or my major. It's just crazy because I just do not see the point in some of the thing they are trying to teach us!

C4T Summary

My assigned teacher sounded like she really was driven to be the best teacher that she could be. The thing that I like the most about her style is that she was trying to get to know her students first. I really like what her principle told her about her first day. He said that if she was talking about content on the first day then something is wrong. A teacher owes it to their students to at least get to know them first. The students need to know that their teacher is not just here for a check. The relationships that each student feel that they have with their teacher will allow them to feel respected and they will give it back.

Vicki Davis: Harness Your Student's Digital Smarts

Vicki's class was very interesting to me! I really liked the way the class was set up except it looked like it had a lot of expensive things in there. The thing that i really liked about the class is that it wasn't a class where the teacher acually didn't baby the students every step of the way. She also tried to help them with their vocabulary by making them look up words that they didn't know the meaning to. I really enjoyed Vicki!

Sir Ken Robinson: The Importants of Creativity

In the lecture Sir Ken Robinson made it seem like Creativity was more important than education. I believe that creativity is important but not to that degree. You can't put creativity above education because education is one thing you can't take away from somebody. Creativity is not going to get you by in the world these days. More education equals more money and more money equals more power.

I believe that there is a time and place for creativity. I just don't believe like the school is one of them. But then again most of the worlds richest people left school.

Mr.Winkle Wakes

The video basically talks about how the technology of many years ago has evolved today. I really didnt know why they had the little cartoon man up there Because he didn't really go with the video at all. But I guess he did add a little animation to the video. The thing that i didn't like about the video is that it bashed the education system a little bit. It was basically saying that computer can teach children and adults better than a teacher can. One thing that a computer can't do is have a relationship with a student like a teacher can. A computer surely can't give a student who has a 89.4 a 90 average. Basically what I'm trying to say is that computers are good in most aspects of life, but there are just some places where computers can't replace.

Did you know!

I thought that the movie said a lot about how the United States compares to the other countries! According to most of the video and the statistics we rather stay on the internet all day chatting on Myspace or Facebook than to stick our heads in a textbook. One of the slides said that one country had more scholars than the United States has people!

The video is basically telling us that we have way too many distraction in the U.S that are hendering us from more education. That's probably why we are in so much debt now. We have to get more educated in what's going on in the world.
